Love! Romance! High society! Art Theft—all told by the wise and witty little cat, Alba, who has her own feline affairs. Lorna, now over 60, has just fallen horribly, head-over heels in love—with a younger man; and worse, he’s involved with her best friend, Nikki, and now Nikki, an art conservator, is caught up in international art theft, prison, and other events of everyday life in Washington, D. C. Underneath this light-hearted romp lie serious issues of aging, sexual desire, friendship, sacrifice, and glimpses into the spiritual realm for which Sophy Burnham, the visionary behind the angels phenomenon, is best known. As with her other bestsellers, just reading this inspiring book leaves you happy.

PRAISE FOR LOVE, ALBA
An audacious literary achievement in the tradition of Watership Down and Timbuktu, Sophy Burnham’s Love, Alba takes a Washingtonian cat’s eye view of love, betrayal, high society, and art theft that is at once charming and deeply wise.
—C.M. Mayo, author of The Last Prince of the Mexican Empire

The delicious appeal of Love Alba has largely to do with the extraordinary voice of its cat-narrator. This voice grows more and more endearing with every page. Alba’s openhearted generosity toward the stumbling emotional antics of her humans leads a captivated reader on a charmed journey to the last sentence. I intended to read the first few chapters yesterday and didn’t raise my head until I was halfway through. What a writer!
—Margaret Dulaney, author of the play The Hummingbird’s Tour

Leave it to literary shape-shifter Sophy Burnham to riff on the feline novel vein of Rita Mae Brown, Don Marquis, Natsume Soseki, and Robert Michie, as told by a snarky cat with a spiritual streak. Burnham possesses a fearless acrobatic imagination, which makes for a magical ate-a-canary smile of a novel.
—Richard Peabody, editor, Gargoyle Magazine; author of Richard Peabody Reader

Love, Alba is a charming, romantic cat’s tale that will leave you purring. . . and mewing for more! I hope it’s the first in a series.
—Anne Simpkinson, former managing editor at Guideposts.com, contributor to Love Dem Cats! blog

In this comedy of manners, human foibles and feline nature combine in delightful, ingenious storytelling. Alba, the cat, is as memorably wise, funny, observant and vulnerable as any great character—yet always believably a cat. With humor and grace Burnham extends a generosity of spirit to all characters and suggests that we humans are lucky, indeed, to be looked after by these divine creatures. We don’t quite measure up, but they love us poor souls anyway.
—Maureen McCoy, author of the novel Junebug

Love Alba eBook Sophy Burnham

I read Love, Alba in 2 sittings, just soaking it up until I was done. Written with Sophy Burnham's usual grace and skill, it is a delightful read that offers a sweet romance with some spiritual insight - not to mention the most endearing narrator I've encountered in a long time. I was quite annoyed with one of the characters for being, to my mind, unforgiveably dense about a legal matter (no spoilers here). Such is Burnham's skill, however, that ... in a book narrated by a cat ... this character's ignorance was the only item that required willing suspension of disbelief. Most of the book's highlights were, for me, the interactions between Alba and her fellow felines. Truly a joy to read and remember.

Love Alba eBook Sophy Burnham Reviews

Delightful and refreshing. Anyone who has ever known a cat is bound to love this story!
This is a sweet story narrated mainly by Alba, a wise and wonderful cat. I have read several of Burnham's books and enjoy her writing style.
What a delightful book! To this madcap romance story set in Washington D.C. add the layer of Alba the cat, the naive yet superior
narrator who is quivering with her own cat intensity, observations, and relationships. And the older woman/younger man story of Burnhams' humans! Irresistible. Would make a great holiday movie.
I cannot imagine a more charming deus ex machina than Alba, who influences her humans’ romantic entanglements with feline insouciance, fortified by wisdom arising from her ability to sense their hidden desires and intentions. The interest of the story’s twists and turns is strengthened by the author’s insider knowledge of the art market, and her masterful writing. A delightful read—I loved it!

Everything rings true here the goshawful Washington parties, the unbearable human narcissists (who, happily, have a short shelf life) and the infinite wisdom of cats. They really do see into other dimensions and are aware of forces of which we humans are not aware. Humans here keep messing up and sabotaging themselves. One even messes around with Sicilian curses, which is never a good idea, but sees the error of her ways. Even Alba can come to terms with the big stupid tom downstairs. Go get it!
I've just finished Love,'Alba and it is a lovely book written by a lovely woman with an angelic calling! Alba is a sweet cat who grows on you as she grows up during the story. I feel like adopting a cat now. It's a spiritually uplifting story that runs the gamut of doubting one's heart to the full joy of living with natural harmony. The ending reminds me of this quote by Robert Louis Stevenson, “So long as we love we serve; so long as we are loved by others, I would almost say that we are indispensable; and no man is useless while he has a friend.”
Sophy Burnham has done a great job of writing a book about cats from the cat's point of view. The cats talk amongst themselves about the human beings in their lives. All my life I have wondered if cats, dogs, cows, and horses discuss we humans. In this case, the cats make delightful observations about humans but also at one point describe how painful it is to be left alone.

I am buying this delightful little book for my grandchildren as a Christmas present. If you love cats it is a great book, but even if you are not a cat lover it is a lot of fun, as I have always wondered what animals think of us. This is a wonderfully imaginative book told from the perspective of several cats. I loved reading it. Thank you Sophy.

Having served in the U.S. Senate for 22 years, I hope that somebody will bring some cats up into the Senate so they could discuss the behavior of senators! Wouldn't that be fun?
